Grant County Tree Sale

Each year Grant County hosts a tree sale for the landowners in and around Grant County.  By holding the tree sale we are able to purchase the trees in bulk, but offer the trees in smaller amounts to those who wish to add a few trees to the landscape.   This year if you would be interested in purchasing tree tubes and staking, please email Annette at annette.lolwing@wi.nacdnet.net  Please put tree tubes in the subject line.

If you have any questions, please call (608) 723-6080, or email Conservation@co.grant.wi.gov.

TREE and SHRUB SALE 2026

To be put on next year’s mailing list

Tree Sale Mailing List: annette.lolwing@wi.nacdnet.net

Put “Tree Sale Mailing List” in the subject line.  Include your name and physical mailing address in the email and we will mail you out an order form in early winter.

Farmland Preservation Program

The Farmland Preservation Program (FPP) is designed to help preserve farmland through local planning and zoning, promote soil and water conservation and provide tax relief to participating landowners

Landowners qualify if their land is in an exclusively agriculture zoning district or if they sign an agreement to user their land exclusively for agricultural purposes.

County Cost Share Program

The County Board approves funding each year for county cost sharing.

The funding is available to cost share on all conservation practices included in the County Cost Share Policy (Listed Below). Due to the small amount of cost share available, the LWCC has set a 75% up to $5000 limit on practices. The CSZC has set high, medium and low priority on each practice and evaluates this list yearly. The priorities are also used to assist NRCS on setting priorities in the Environmental Quality Incentives Program. (EQIP).

Soil & Water resource Management (SWRM) Cost Share Program

Each year DATCP allocates a certain amount of funds to provide cost sharing in Grant County.  Since the dollar amount of the grant is relatively small in comparison to the amount of cost share requests, the CSZC has set a limit of 70% cost sharing up to $13,500. If the estimate cost is over $13,500, the individual may request additional funds from the previously mentioned County Cost Share Program.  Cost sharing is available for a variety of the traditional conservation practices used in Grant County.

Chapter 90: Animal Waste Storage & Nutrient Utilization Ordinance

Animal waste storage and nutrient utilization is regulated through Chapter 90 of the grant County Code of Ordinances. The purpose of this ordinance is to regulate the location, design, construction,  installation, alteration, closure and the utilization of the animal waste from these facilities in order to prevent water pollution and protect the water resources of Grant County. A permit is required before any construction activity takes place. Each application for a permit under the Ordinance shall include a complete set of detailed construction plans and a Nutrient Management Plan. Applications are reviewed by the Grant County CSZD to ensure compliance with NRCS standards and specifications.

Wildlife Damage Abatement & Claims Program

Wisconsin has a program that assists farmers when wildlife damages their agricultural crops. The Wildlife Damage Abatement and Claims Program (WDACP) provides damage prevention assistance and partial compensation to farmers when wild deer, bear, geese, and turkeys damage their agricultural crops.  Wildlife managers issue agricultural damage shooting permits to farmers for removal of deer (and occasionally bear, geese, and turkeys) that cause damage.

Nutrient Management Program

The statewide agricultural performance standards (SAPS) state that every producer that applies chemical or biological fertilizer must develop and maintain a nutrient management plan by 2008. In an effort to help the landowners of Grant County meet the SAPS, the Grant County Conservation, Sanitation, and Zoning Department has developed a program where farmers can learn to write their own plan. It is a 4 session training course, where you learn the proper way to sample your soils, find out about the nutrient crediting and UW Recommendations and learn the ins and outs of the SNAP Plus computer program, used to write your plan.

Environmental Quality Incentives Program

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program(EQIP) is a voluntary conservation program offered through the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service. It supports production agriculture and environmental quality as compatible goals. Through EQIP, farmers may receive financial and technical help with structural and management conservation practices on agricultural land.

Land & Water Resource Management Plan

Every citizen benefits from the protection and sustainable use of our natural resources. As standing committees to county boards, CSZC are the primary local delivery system of natural resource programs. County committees and departments are the public’s vital link with local landowners to promote the implementation of conservation practices and achieve greater environmental stewardship of the land.

Wisconsin Act 27 includes provisions for CSZC to develop county Land and Water Resource Management (LWRM) plans. County LWRM plans are envisioned to be a local action or implementation plan with emphasis on program integration. The planning process will provide a more efficient and effective means to address resource issues, meet state standards, and more effectively leverage local, state, and federal resources.
